Keynote Session: Rabbi Elie Kaunfer and Joey Weisenberg

Transformation of a Nigun:  Based on his extensive experience with nigunim (wordless melodies), nusah (prayer chant) and other musical styles, Joey teaches how to collectively explore the soul of any melody.

Building Singing Communities:  Using ideas from his book Building Singing Communities, Joey joins with Rabbi Elie Kaunfer to discuss strategies for bringing people together to make music a lasting and joy-filled force in shul and Jewish life.  We will have time for breakout discussions and Q&A.

Elie KaunferRabbi Elie Kaunfer is co-founder and executive director of Mechon Hadar. A graduate of Harvard University and an ordinee of Jewish Theological Seminary, he has been named multiple times to Newsweek’s Top 50 rabbis in America. He is the author of Empowered Judaism: What Independent Minyanim Can Teach Us About Building Vibrant Jewish Communities (Jewish Lights, 2010).

 

 


Joey Weisenberg
Joey Weisenberg is the creative director of Mechon Hadar’s Center for Jewish Communal Music. He is a mandolinist, guitarist, singer, and percussionist who visits shuls and communities around the world as a musician-in-residence, teaching his popular ‘Spontaneous Jewish Choir” workshops. He is the author of Building Singing Communities, published by Mechon Hadar.
